Optimizing recognition and working towards translating American sign language gestures into speech

I had the opportunity to Intern at One of the premier Online Retailer, Overstock.com.

I worked with the Merchandizing Analytics team and worked towards optimizing the Baseline (non-promoted) Sales Prediction model.

Trained scikit-learn ML Regression models, learning on sometimes extremely sparse data and stillachieved a reduction in Error by about 40% over their existing Prediction models.

I served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at The University of Utah.

In the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016, served as a TA for two Junior level courses, Mechatronics I and Mechatronics II respectively. Served as a Lab Assistant for a section of 12 students in each semester.

Responsible for any in-lab assistance required as the students worked on several experiments involving sensors, actuators, micro-controllers etc. (Mechatronics I)

Aided students in building a Robot based for a specific problem statement. The problem statement for Spring '16 was to build a Robot to collect wooden blocks, collect rocks and sense which ones were magnetic and stack/store them as specified. (Mechatronics II)

Apart from this, I also served as a Grader and was resposible for grading Homeworks, Quizzes and Exams for about 140 students in each semester.

I served as an Assistant Systems Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Limited. TCS is a an international multinational Information Technology (IT) service, consulting and business solutions company. It operates in 46 countries. Responsibilities include Shell scripting to optimize monitoring of Application Servers, performing jar deployments on hosts, CPU usage monitoring, Incident Management, etc.

Supported the IT infrastructure during Change Request cycles, provided on-call support to ensure efficient Disaster Recovery and Troubleshooting of Application/Infrastructure issues in Production environment.

I served as an Undergraduate Summer Intern at Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR), Bangalore. CAIR is a premier robotic research laboratory under Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of the Indian Ministry of Defence. CAIR is currently working on several autonomous robots like UGV’s, UAV’s amongst others required for use by the defence forces.

During the Internship, I worked on a project to Study and Optimize a Tree Climbing Robot, under the guidance of Rao Arun Prakash, Scientist E, CAIR.

My contrbutions to the project have been explained here.
